Information for Visitors Renting a Car
From 1 June 2026, all vehicle rentals in the Autonomous Region of Madeira are subject to a mandatory Car Rental Usage Fee, established by the Regional Government of Madeira under Regional Legislative Decree No. 7/2025/M.
This tax applies regardless of which car rental company you choose and is not a charge created by Go Go Away Madeira Rent a Car.
How is the fee calculated?
The Car Rental Usage Fee is calculated based on the number of full rental days shown in your rental agreement.
Standard vehicles (petrol, diesel and hybrid)
- €2.00 per full rental day
- Charged for a maximum of 10 days per rental contract
- Maximum fee: €20.00 per rental
Zero-emission vehicles (electric)
- €1.00 per full rental day
- Charged for a maximum of 10 days per rental contract
- Maximum fee: €10.00 per rental
Even if your rental lasts longer than 10 days, the fee will not exceed the legal maximum.
Is this a Go Go Away Madeira fee?
No.
This is not an extra service, booking fee, hidden charge, or optional add-on created by Go Go Away Madeira.
It is a mandatory government-imposed fee that every licensed car rental company in Madeira is legally required to collect.
Is the fee included in the online rental price?
No.
The prices displayed on our website include only the vehicle rental and any optional services you choose during the booking process.
The Car Rental Usage Fee is charged separately when you collect your vehicle, as required by law.
This allows you to clearly distinguish between:
- Your vehicle rental price
- Optional extras (such as child seats or additional drivers)
